Script Evaluation

Script Evaluation

As a writer, I know how important it is to get a solid second opinion, but I also know that evaluations can be fairly frustrating. This industry is incredibly subjective, and often a few paragraphs of feedback from a stranger doesn’t really provide you with enough information to confidently move on to your next draft, let alone justify the increasingly unreasonable prices many new writers are facing from anonymous gatekeepers.

So here’s the deal…

For $100 you’ll receive the following evaluation in about a week (unless things are nuts, in which case I’ll tell you beforehand):

Why does it take a week?

I read your script twice, once to get a sense of your story, characters, pacing, etc., and another where I’m taking notes line-by-line as issues or questions come up. It’s a slow process, but it’s worth it.

Want more?

For $150 you’ll be provided your evaluation and a 30-minute chat via Zoom or Google Meet for any follow-up questions, explanations, etc (and hey, if we go over, that’s fine). I’m a nice guy, I promise I’ll never be mean.

My Reader Philosophy

I read every script as if my own rep sent it to me saying I was hired to re-write it. I look for ways to improve it, not simply provide a blanket “this good” or “this not good.” While I think plenty of folks could benefit from what I’d provide, I earnestly believe that writers with a 1st draft would benefit the most before they send it off to Blacklist, Coverfly, or a similar ranking service.

Most importantly, I cannot overemphasize that there is no magic bullet for a screenplay. This industry is not just extremely subjective, it is astronomically unlikely that a script will be a hit. You have to be in the right place at the right time with the right people reading the right script. But hey, if we didn’t believe in our chances, we wouldn’t be writers.

BUT FIRST

I highly recommend all submissions to go through two quality control checks before they are sent. First is simply running a spellcheck through your writing software, and the second (and arguably most important) is to read your script slowly and out loud. You’ll be amazed at how many surface-level issues this catches which would otherwise become distracting during the evaluation process.

Sounds good? Then send away!
